What is Metronidazole

What is Metronidazole?
Bacteria can be bad or good. But we have to fight against bacteria which are bad for our health. A popular antibiotic medicine Metronidazole provides an excellent fighting power against bacteria and kills them. Metronidazole effectively treats bacterial infections of the vagina, skin, stomach, joints, and respiratory tract. However, it does not treat vaginal yeast infection and often people take up this medicine for this.

How Many Days

Metronidazole is taken for a period of time as prescribed by the doctor. Usually, it is taken for continuous 03 days two or three times a day 01 hour before or after the meal. Please do not discontinue using this medicine even if you feel that you have gotten rid of the infection. Always complete the course as suggested otherwise you will be making your infection more serious.
If you use alcohol, stop using it till the time you are using Metronidazole. You cannot treat Cold and flu with the help of this antibiotic.

Not to Use

You should not use Metronidazole in the following cases unless and until your doctor specifically suggests this:

If you are allergic to metronidazole,
If you are in the first trimester of pregnancy,
If you are suffering from liver disease,
If you are suffering from an intestinal or stomach disease such as Crohn's disease,
If you are suffering from epilepsy or other seizure disorder,
If you are suffering from nerve disorders,
If you are suffering from red and white blood cell disorders. These are called anemia and           leukopenia,
If you are feeding a child. Antibiotics are dangerous for newborn babies.
Side Effects

As Metronidazole is an antibiotic medicine, it has some disadvantages as well. Some of the disadvantages are as follows:

Back pain
     A significant change in speaking style
Blurred vision
Confusion
Agitation
Depression
Fever
Headache
Dizziness
Convulsions (Muscle shrinks and expands rapidly and result in shaking of the body)
Nausea (Discomfort and unease in the upper stomach)
Stiff neck (You are able to easily move or freely neck)
Difficulty in breathing
Clumsiness
Chills
Stomach pain
Bleeding gum (very rare)
Constipation (costiveness or dyschezia)
Loss of hunger
Ulcers (break in a membrane)
Yellow eyes
Dark yellow color urine
